Thum Khao Wong Forest Park is located in Moo 3, Ban Rai District, Ban Rai Ampur, Uthai Thani Province. Thum Khao Wong is a forest park of 8,125 rais in Pa Huai Tha Kuai and Pa Huai Kra Wen Forest Reserve. It was gazetted by Royal Forest Department on 9 December 2001
Topography
The area is mountainous and the key features are Khao Chong Lom (Valley of the wind) and Khao Roop Chang (Elephant shape). The total mountain area is about 2,500 rais and the highest peak is 637 metres above sea level. Two mountains are separated by plateau of 1,000 rais. The forest park consists mainly of steep mountains about 35% of the area. The forest on the mountain is still in good condition and home to many wildlife species. Furthermore, the forest park is also wathershed of Huai Mor Kow stream which runs through Ban Rai Ampur. Streams run all year round in Khao Chong Lom area.
Flora and Fauna
The area of Khao Roop Chang and Khao Chong Lom is mostly Mixed Deciduous forest except on the mountain top area. The area near the top of the mountain is patchy moist Mixed Deciduous forest. Tree species found here are Afzelia xylocarpa, Lagerstroemia cuspidate, Lagerstroemia tomentosa,, Pterocarpus macrocarpus, Syzygium glaucum, Dalbergia oliveri, Syzygium cumini, Meliosma pinnata, Schleichera oleosa, Stereochilus neuranthum, Adenanthera pavonina, Protium serratum, Millettia brandisiana, Croton argyratus, Dillenia Spp, and Oroxylum indicum for example. Dry Evergree forest is found in mountain crevice and the valley near the stream. In the rainy season the forest become moist evergreen forest. Many Undergrowth species thrive here include vine, orchid, fern and bamboo spp. Herb species found in the area are Critakarua shanica, a local medicine for detoxic and relieve fever, is also f Piper betle, Piper interruptum, Tinospora crispa, Stephania venosa, Stephania pierrei, Diospyros mollis, Zingiber spectabile, Persicaria acuminata, Streblus asper, Anamirta cocculus, in the area. Other herb species include Smilax china, Derris elliptica, Ventilago denticulata andPiper betle. Many wildlife are still found living on the mountain today such as Serow, Civet, Palm Civet, Wild Pig, Junglefowl, Butterfly Lizard, Pheasant, Macaque, Barking Deer, Monitor, Pangolin, Mongoose, Squirrel, Treeshrew, Hare, Mole, Bamboo Rat, Bat and Snakes etc.
