Mae Fang National Park, located in Amphur Mae Eye, Amphur Fang, Amphur Chai Prakarn of Chiang Mai Province, consists of complicated geography which is a part of a watershed called Dan Lao Mountain Range. It is the productive forest which not only has a great number of plants and animals but also beautiful natures, for examples, Huai Bond Cave, Hot-mineral Water Pond, Hot Spring and Mae Jai Stream. It is an importantly traveling place of Chiangmai Province. Traveler can take convenient ways to get there. It is 524 square kilometers, and has been declared a national park since September 4, 2000.

Topography
Most of the area consists of complicated mountains, a part of Phi Pan Nam Mountain Range, about 400-2,285 meters above sea level. There are important mountains such as Doi Pha Hhom Bhog, it is the second highest mountain of Thailand, Doi Bhoo Muan and Doi Ang-Khang which is the origin of Mae Fang River.

Climate
The temperature in this area is approximately 25.40 degrees Celsius all the year round; it is about 13.7-19.00 degrees Celsius on November to February, the highest temperature is 39.10 degree Celsius on April and heavy rain on May to September approximately 1,183 mm. of rain all the year round.

Flora and Fauna
The forest is productive and consists of semi-evergreen forest, montane forest, pine forest (coniferous forest), mixed forest and deciduous forest which have many kinds of economically valuable plants such as Malabar ironwood, wild Euphorbiaceae, Yang, Burmese ebony, Lagerstroemia, Teak wood, wild champak and emblic myrabolan etc. And more importantly, there are rare floras such as Impatiens jurpioides T. Shimizu and Rhododendronwhich which can be normally found in Doi Pha Hhom Bhog.

The forest of Mae Fang National Park is on complicated mountain and in contact with the forest of Myanmar so that makes many kinds of wild animal migrating into this area regularly. And because it is the productive forest so that makes it have a number of animals, for examples, mammals such as barking deer, deer, bear, wild bore, loris and mountain goat—a reserve animal of Thailand, birds such as turtledove and purple cochoa--found only in Northern Thailand, and nearly extinct butterfly such as Imperial Butterfly, Kaiser Butterfly and Phutan Butterfly.

Doi Pha Hhom Bhog (Pha Hhom Bhog Mountain)
Doi Pha Hhom bhog, the second highest mountain in Thailand, is about 2,285 meters above sea level. Lying at the top of the mountain is a plain area which causes by geological condition; there have thin layer of soil and stratum of granite lays underground, and heavy blowing wind all the year round. From that place, traveler can see wonderful sceneries such as Fog Sea and the road on the ridges of mountains along with Thai-Burmese border. The road is constructed in accordance with adding national security between the two countries. The forest is rainforest and the source of water so that makes the place have the best natural environment and different kind of biological organism, for examples, there are rare species of plants and animals such as Impatiens jurpioides T. Shimizu, Imperial Butterfly, Phutan Butterfly and Kaiser Butterfly.

Fang Hot Spring
There are many hot-mineral water ponds in the about-10-rai area (16,000 squares meters). The water is hot-mineral about 90-130 degrees Celsius because of the hot condition from underground. The largest pond has hot steam rising 40-50 meters above the ground. There are many travelers come to recreate in this area, for example, sauna and taking a bath on mineral water. It locates in the same area of Mae Fang National Park Office.

Hot Spring
The hot spring will be rising about 50 meters above the ground for 2 minutes and stopping for 25 minutes then rising again in regular period. That is very interesting. It locates near Hot-mineral Water Pond.

Huai Bon Cave
Huai Bon Cave is a big cave, 20-30 meters wide, which consists of many wonderful stalagmites and stalactites. There are two entrances distant 150 meters from each other, no dangerous areas for traveler, and also many small caves, about 10, nearby. It locates 12 km. from Fang District. Traveler can go on foot 4 km. from Hot-mineral Water Pond.

Na Ma Aun Waterfall locates in the middle of a dense forest in Mae Sao Sub-district, Mae Eye District. It is a big waterfall which consists of three big levels. All of the waterfalls are the same—that is, there are water flows all the year round and great number of productive nature, all of which enable moss and fern derive from the rock and boulder along the streams.

Tard Mok Waterfall locates four kilometers from Mae Eye District, close to tarmac road. The beautiful scenery of the waterfall consists of glassy vapor spreading all over the cliff look like covered by fog.

     By Car
 

From Chiang Mai province along the highway 107 (Chiang Mai-Fang) to Amphur Fang. Then along to Fang-Mon Bhin road about 3 km, take a right at Route 4054 to Pong Nam Ron village. It is 8 kilometers to the Park Headquarter.


     By Bus
 

There are air buses from Bangkok to Fang and Chiang Mai to Fang directly—this is the service of the Transport Company Limited and Private Sectors. There also are buses from Fang District to the Mae Fang National Park Office, the distance is 10 km.
